Divided from Lipari by a 4km wide and 330m deep channel, it is formed by two mountains that join the valley of Valdichiesa. Terraced wisely used for the cultivation of capers, it is famous for the production of Malvasia. After mooring in the harbor, or in the tourist dock, the tour can start with a visit to the ancient village of Santa Maria, with its characteristic souvenir shops and typical Aeolian restaurants. From the evocative Bay of Pollara it is easy to navigate and immerse yourself in the unmissable beaches of the island: the Gobbe di Salina and Rinella, with the beaches Malfa and Capofaro have enchanted writers, directors and, above all, the tourists who crowd them every summer.

Tour Overview

With its three towns, Santa Marina, Malfa and Leni, it is the second largest Aeolian island, with little more than 2,300 inhabitants. Olive groves, caper bushes, lush, fig and citrus trees. Here’s Salina, an island that can make your eyes and taste buds burst from the rapture with the sweetest and most savory delicacies of nature..
International Success

Il Postino

In the 1995 film Il Postino, Mario Ruoppolo, the gentle postman of the title, tells the poet Pablo Neruda that “poetry doesn’t belong to those who write it; it belongs to those who need it.” Set and partly filmed on the island of Salina, one of the beautiful Aeolian Islands, Il Postino proved to be an enormous international success.
Things To Do

Pollara & Granita

In the bleak, remote village of Pollara, we saw where Il Postino was filmed, following steep steps down to a few fishermen’s homes built into the rock of a cove beneath sheer volcanic cliffs. Walking tours to Fossa delle Felci, trip to Valdichiesa (village of 89 inhabitants) at Semaforo di Pollara and Punta Lingua.

The Place

Stone streets, pebble beaches and the two 13,000 year old dormant volcanoes. For some people it’s love at first sight! You’ll want to take a picture of every corner of this fascinating island with its volcanic cliffs near the sea. Monte Fossa delle Felci and Monte dei Porri that gave the island its original Greek name "Didyme" meaning twins.
